Once you reach the Grand Canyon, do not even waste your time at the South Rim overlooks.
If there are not too many tourists snapping pictures through railings, glance at the canyon to gain perspective of where you are and where you will be going.
Prepare yourself to mule ride or hike to the bottom in order to experience the canyon’s true glory.
From the top, the mighty Colorado River looks serene and appears to gently flow through the multi-colored layers of the canyon. But once you reach the bottom, the park service warns to stay clear of the raging water as its power and volume may sweep you away. It is this swift and violent water that has carved the canyon over many years.
